Kentucky QB Cutter Boley apparently played alright, alright, alright on Saturday according to Matthew McConaughey.

Per KSR’s Nick Roush, McConaughey supposedly spoke with Boley, who started and played the entire second half in the 31-14 loss for the Wildcats at Texas yesterday, postgame to give his compliments to the true freshman for UK.

Boley replaced Brock Vandagriff for the second half yesterday during the loss in Austin. In playing on The 40 Acres against the No. 3 team in the nation, with one of the best defenses in the country, he looked decent as he was 10-18 (55.6%) for 160 yards and an interception. That was after Vandagriff was 3-7 (42.9%) in the first half for 51 yards, a touchdown on a fourth-down fling in the red zone, and a pick.

This comes a week after Boley made his true collegiate debut for Kentucky. After Vandagriff started and went 12/19 (63.2%) for 183 yards, two touchdowns, and a pick against Murray State, Boley checked in at the same point to open the second half. Versus the Racers, he was 10-14 (71.4%) for 130 yards and a pair of scores.

Add that all up and Boley is 20-38 (52.6%) overall for 290 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions through three appearances.

The Wildcats had already had quarterback conversations over the course of the season considering the snap counts between Vandagriff along with their usage of Gavin Wimsatt. However, they may not be in a full-on controversy at the position entering the final week of their fall because of Boley. Some of it has been due to injury, some of it has been due to play-calling but, with how Boley has looked in comparison to Vandagriff and Wimsatt, the freshman, who can still redshirt regardless of if he plays or not, could possibly get the final start of the season this upcoming weekend against Louisville. That would then potentially set him up as Kentucky’s QB1 for next year.

Boley has gotten a lot of credit for how he has played in his opportunities during three games to this point. That includes this from McConaughey yesterday with him getting the nod from the actor.
