Maxwell Hariston injury update: Latest on Kentucky defensive back
Kentucky is in a dogfight with South Carolina in Lexington, a game both programs desperately need to win. Unfortunately, injuries have been a problem for the Wildcats with multiple players leaving the field and heading to the locker room. Defensive back Maxwell Hariston is the latest in the second half.
ESPN’s Molly McGrath was able to provide an update from the sideline, saying it’s a shoulder problem for Hariston. He is not a happy camper either, wanting to be out there and helping his teammates come from behind to beat South Carolina.
“Maxwell Hariston was really emotional, throwing his helmet in frustration and pain on the sideline,” McGrath said during the third quarter. “He was dealing with an apparent left shoulder injury. He’s going back for further evaluations. I’ll keep you updated as soon as I know more.”
Hariston was making his presence known in a big way, having three tackles, one TFL, and a sack. He is widely viewed as one of Kentucky’s top defensive backs and could make his way to the NFL after the 2024 season.

For now, there is not much information available. Head coach Mark Stoops will surely have more after the game, no matter the end result. Kentucky is going to need Hariston moving forward. Mainly next week as Kentucky goes up against one of the best teams in the country, Georgia.
Until then, the Wildcats will have to deal without a key member of their secondary. Finding a way to stop South Carolina is going to be critical to getting back in the game. Otherwise, a tough result might be taking place in Lexington and something Kentucky is surely looking to avoid.
Hariston played high school football at West Bloomfield (MI) High School, where he was a three-star prospect. He was the No. 920 overall recruit in the 2021 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
