On Saturday, LSU and Florida will renew their rivalry. In a game like this, there are numerous smaller battles within the larger game. That includes a unique one, with a Sun Belt connection. LSU cornerback Mekhi Garner played for Florida head coach Billy Napier when they were at Louisiana together.

Now, Mekhi Garner wants to show off for his former coach and show Billy Napier that he created a monster. While speaking to the media, Garner was asked about playing Napier.

“Most definitely be exciting,” Mekhi Garner said. “You know like I told the other reporters that he was the one who gave me a shot, gave me an opportunity.

“But, now, it’s time to put it all together and show him what he created, you know, a monster.”

Later on, Mekhi Garner was asked if he and Billy Napier had been in contact ahead of the game. He smiled when he said that he hadn’t.

“I’ll see Napier and all the rest of the staff Saturday.”

A member of the Class of 2018, Mekhi Garner was unranked out of high school. He went to Louisiana, where he became a dominant cornerback. Following the 2021 season, Billy Napier left to coach Florida. Meanwhile, Garner left for LSU.
