Memphis rises in class ranking after Ty-Laur Johnson commitment

He is the sixth addition to Memphis’ recruiting class, joining four-star guard Mikey Williams (No. 35), four-star forward JJ Taylor (No. 60), three-star guard Carl Cherenfant (No. 133), three-star guard Ryan Forrest, and three-star big man David Tubek (No. 267).

Johnson is the No. 67 overall prospect in the 2023 class, according to the On3 Consensus, the average ranking from all four major recruiting media companies. He’s also the No. 11 point guard and the No. 1 player in the state of New York.

Johnson Scouting Summary

Ty-Laur Johnson plays with a New York PG swag. He has a crafty handle with a lot of flair. He can get to his spots off the bounce, but does have a tendency to over-dribble to get there. He can shoot, but his load comes beside his head knocking it off line at times. Johnson sees the floor well and he has confidence by the boat load. – On3’s Jamie Shaw
