Memphis is bringing an assistant with NFL experience onto their offensive staff. According to On3’s Matt Zenitz, the Tigers are bringing former Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Quinn Gray on as an offensive analyst.

“Memphis has hired former Jacksonville Jaguars QB Quinn Gray as a senior offensive analyst,” revealed Zenitz. “Gray was Alcorn State’s quarterbacks coach the last two years.”

After playing his college football at Florida A&M, Gray was signed with the Jaguars after being undrafted in the 2002 NFL Draft. However, he stuck around — playing with the franchise from 2002-2007. In his NFL career, Gray amassed 13 touchdowns and 1,328 passing yards.

After it was determined he was unable to stick around at the NFL level, Gray played one season with the New York Sentinels of the United Football League. Then, after a layoff, he began his coaching career.

First, the former Jaguars quarterback became the head coach at Lincoln High School in Tallahassee, Florida in 2017. Then, he got his first college gig — the aforementioned position of quarterbacks coach at Alcorn State, which he started in 2020.

Now, Gray will get his biggest coaching opportunity yet at Memphis. Under the direction of head coach Ryan Silverfield, the Tigers will be looking to improve upon their 6-6 record from 2021.

More on Quinn Gray, Memphis Tigers

Quinn Gray joins a Memphis team still looking for closure from their 2021 season. While the team went 6-6, their appearance in the EasyPost Hawaii Bowl was cancelled due to COVID-19 troubles.

While the Tigers have been one of the top teams in The American over recent seasons, 2021 was different for Memphis. The program didn’t perform to the expectations they’ve set for themselves, and other programs overtook the Tigers with impressive seasons.

Now, Quinn Gray joins a staff looking to return to the glory of recent seasons. Time will tell if his addition is enough to help put the Tigers back on the pedestal they placed so high.
