Memphis safety Jaylen Johnson entered the NCAA transfer portal. He’ll look for the third school of his college football career.

Johnson started his career at Ohio State. Following two seasons in Columbus, Johnson found himself at Memphis this past fall.

Johnson only played one game last season, registering one tackle. His career highs came in 2022 with Ohio State, logging 19 total tackles and 15 solo tackles.

As a member of the Class of 2021, Johnson was a four-star recruit out of Cincinnati (Ohio) La Salle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He was the No. 12 overall prospect in the state, the No. 29 safety in the class and the No. 397 overall prospect in the class.

FedEx commits $25 million to Memphis Athletics

The logistics company announced Friday it’s committing $25 million over the next five years to Memphis’ NIL efforts. It’s a monumental moment in the history of name, image and likeness, believed to be the first NIL corporate sponsorship that services an entire athletic department.

A Memphis-based company, Altius Sports Partners was brought in to facilitate the deal. The agreement calls for FedEx to spend $5 million annually across five years. Dollars have been appropriated for football, men’s and women’s basketball and other women’s athletic programs, however, how NIL dollars are dispersed is unclear.

Athletes will earn compensation for promoting FedEx in promotional campaigns.
