Police say Memphis signee Mikey Williams arrested after allegedly firing gun at car
After star Memphis signee Mikey Williams was arrested, additional details have emerged about the incident that led to him being charged with several counts of assault with a deadly weapon.
The San Diego County Sheriff’s Department indicated that Williams fired a gun at a car driving away from a house on March 27, according to Memphis News writer Jason Munz.
During that incident, there was a verbal argument in the house where guests were asked to leave.
Five people got into a car and “as they were driving away, shots were fired.” Nobody in the car was hit, but a police investigation of the incident led to a search warrant served at the house in question on April 13. It was there that Mikey Williams was arrested.
He was released on $50,000 bail on Friday, April 14, just after midnight and is expected to appear in court on April 20 at 8 a.m.
Before he was arrested, Mikey Williams was one of the most high-profile recruits in the country.
The 6-foot-2, 190-pound combo guard is rated as four-star prospect and the No. 24 overall player in the nation in the 2023 recruiting class, according to the On3 Industry Rankings. He checked in as the No. 3 combo guard in the class and the No. 5 overall player in the state of California, hailing from San Diego (Calif.) San Ysidro.

In addition to his stature as a top prospect in the 2023 class, Williams is also one of the most marketable prospects.
He checks in at No. 4 overall on the NIL100 list, carrying an annual valuation estimated at $3.3 million. He has six million total followers on social media, with 3.8 million followers on Instagram, 2.1 million followers on TikTok and 81,000 followers on Twitter.
The NIL100 is a ranking of the athletes commanding the largest NIL valuations.
Williams trails LeBron James‘ son, Bronny James ($7.2 million), Texas signee Arch Manning ($3.8 million) and LSU gymnast Livvy Dunne ($3.5 million).
