Miami got the best of Florida in a big way, blowing out the Gators 41-17 at Ben Griffin Hill Stadium on Saturday in the season opener. The 41 points were the most Florida had ever allowed in a season opener at home as the Hurricanes controlled the game from start to finish.

They weren’t done with humiliating their rival once the game ended either, as the official X account had some fun with reporting the final score. The caption on the post read, “Walk in yo swamp, take over yo swamp,” a play on the nickname for the Gators stadium.

Miami never trailed Florida as the Hurricanes started by forcing a three-and-out on defense. They then drove 84 yards downfield for their first touchdowns of the game as Cam Ward found Cam McCormick on a nine-yard touchdown pass.

That was the first of three TD tosses for Ward on the day as he finished 26-of-35 passing for 385 yards with only one interception. Additionally, the Hurricanes defense forced a pair of interceptions from the Gators.

It was quite the way to start the season for Miami, which has hopes this season of competing an ACC title. It only makes it all the much sweeter that it comes against Florida too, as the rivalry was renewed this season.

The Hurricanes will move on to face another team from the Sunshine State, Florida A&M, next Saturday at 6 p.m. ET.

Cam Ward after Florida win: ‘This is the most prepared I’ve been in my career’

Ward, who is entering his his fifth season of college football, couldn’t have asked for a better debut with the Hurricanes. The transfer said postgame that this is the most prepared he’s felt in his career, a scary thought for the defenses he will face this season.

“Both side of the ball came with it,” Ward said postgame on ABC. “Shout out to the defense. They played good all day. I gave up a couple of points, but it was a good team win. We came out prepared. I feel like this is the most prepared that I’ve been in my college career and I’m just excited we can go 1-0.”

Ward had high expectations coming in from Washington State, where he threw for more than 3,500 yards and 25 touchdowns this past season. It’s safe to say he didn’t disappoint and his performance should leave Miami fans excited for what’s in store for the rest of the season.

“You only get a certain amount of times to play football and I’m gonna take advantage of every opportunity that I get,” Ward said. “Something that I wanted to do out of high school is come play in the SEC and I got a chance to do that. So all glory to God. I’m just blessed to be here.”
