Miami transfer Norchad Omier commits to Baylor
Norchad Omier has committed to transfer to Baylor out of the portal.
Omier made the announcement that he’d be joining the Bears on social media on Sunday.
“Thank you to everyone that took the time to reach out to me during this process,” wrote Omier in his post. “This was one of the most difficult decisions of my life. I want to give a special thanks to my parents, mentors, teammates, and the entire staff at the University of Miami for helping me get to this point. I will forever cherish the memories I made there and wish everything there nothing but the best! Lastly, I want to thank God for the talent and ability I have been given, as without Him I would not be where I am today.”
“I have taken the last few days to reflect, watch film, pray, and discuss everything with my family. After taking this all into account, all signs have led me in this direction and I am at peace with my decision,” Omier wrote. “With that being said, I have decided to commit to Baylor University and can’t wait to achieve those dreams together over the next year. Go BU and Sic’Em Bears!”
Omier will be entering his fifth collegiate season next year. He spent the first two of his career at Arkansas State and the past two at Miami.
In that time, Omier has appeared in 120 games for the Red Wolves and the Hurricanes, including 117 starts. With the two programs, he has averaged 15.2 points, 11 rebounds, 1.4 steals, 1.3 blocks, and 1.1 assists while shooting 57.6% from the field. He has averaged a double-double in every single season and has led his teams in key statistics several times over.
During this last year in Coral Gables, Omier posted 17 points and 10 rebounds while shooting 55% from the field. That gave him team-highs in points, rebounds, steals, and blocks.
Omier was also a key part in the Hurricanes making their only Final Four in ’22-’23. That came after they won the regular-season title in the ACC.

For all that, Omier was an All-Sun Belt and All-ACC selection while in both leagues. He was also, while in State University, a Sun Belt Player of the Year, Sun Belt Defensive Player of the Year, and the Sun Belt Freshman of the Year.
Omier is a native of Nicaragua. He has competed twice for their national team in 2021 and 2023. Bluefields is where he resided until coming and playing at Miami Prep in high school.
This is a significant get for Scott Drew and the Bears. Per On3’s 2024 Transfer Portal Top Players, Omier is the No. 2 overall transfer behind only Oumar Ballo (Indiana). He also rates as the No. 1 SF in the portal.
Baylor will now add Omier along with another top transfer in PG Jeremy Roach. Roach just completed his senior year, the best of his time in college, at Duke. They’ll come in to anchor a roster that will be adding the No. 4 recruiting class in the nation.
