Nebraska Football Head Coach Matt Rhule Meets With The Media On Monday Ahead Of Illinois I Gbr

Nebraska starting offensive lineman Micah Mazzccua was a surprising scratch ahead of Saturday’s game against Northern Iowa. Huskers head coach Matt Rhule announced Monday that Mazzccua is set to miss a second straight game and will not play Friday against Illinois. Sam McKewon tweeted out the news.

“Nebraska coach Matt Rhule said Micah Mazzccua won’t play this week. Still on team, practicing,” McKewon posted.

Micah Mazzccua is not injured but it appears as though he is being punished by Matt Rhule for something.

Rhule was asked about Mazzccua following Saturday’s 34-3 win over Northern Iowa.

“Micah, you know, I’ll probably address that later,” Matt Rhule said. “It was just a coach’s decision. He’s still with us. He just didn’t play tonight.

Mazzccua started the first two games of the season at right guard, before missing this past week’s game.

The senior transferred into Nebraska this offseason after spending last year at Florida. He started 11 of 12 games for the Gators in 2023.

Prior to playing at Florida, Micah Mazzccua was at Baylor from 2020-2022. During the 2022 season, he played in 11 games and made 10 starts.

The Cornhuskers are off to a strong start to the season and are 3-0, including a win over Colorado.

Other Nebraska injuries news

In addition to Micah Mazzccua, Nebraska had two other players miss the game against Northern Iowa in cornerback Blye Hill and linebacker Javin Wright.

Hill is a sophomore defensive back who transferred in from Saint Francis this offseason.

As for Wright, he is a senior linebacker who is dealing with a “health condition,” per Rhule. The head coach provided an update on the linebacker earlier this month.

“We got a really positive update on him so things are trending in the right direction for him to come back at some point sooner than later,” Rhule said. “But, again, there’s a lot of steps that have to happen. So I don’t want to put the cart before the horse, but he’s battling and doing everything right. We got a really good report, literally this morning. So I’ve got a little pep in my step for him.

“Has has a health condition that we’re working through right now, so I’ll probably leave it at that, just until he’s ready to talk more about it. He’s with the team. He’ll be with us, but dealing with a health condition that will hold him from playing for right now. He’ll be okay, he just can’t play right now.”
