Michael Irvin pumps up Miami players before go-ahead TD vs. Virginia Tech

The MiamiVirginia Tech game was an absolute classic on Friday night and Hurricanes legend Michael Irvin pumped up his former team late in the fourth quarter, right before the Canes scored the go-ahead touchdown.

Check it out as he fired up the Miami players, shortly before they took it down the field and scored the go-ahead touchdown.

There was plenty of controversy, as the game came down to a hail mary in the final seconds. Virginia Tech quarterback Kyron Drones threw a potential game-winning touchdown pass in the closing seconds. But officials reviewed the play and ruled it an incomplete pass.

Officials at first ruled it a touchdown catch for Virginia Tech, but then they reviewed it and reversed the decision, calling it incomplete. Miami pulled off the stunning win, 38-34.

It was one of the best games of the 2024 college football season so far.

Virginia Tech quarterback Kyron Drones finished with over 200 all-purpose yards, while tossing in two touchdowns with one interception. Hokies running back Bhayshul Tuten showcased why he’s one of the best in the ACC, racking up 141 rushing yards and one touchdown on 19 carries, including a 55-yarder he ripped off at one point.

Miami quarterback Cam Ward continues to shine as one of the nation’s best. He certainly made his fair share of mistakes on Friday night, but he had some absolutely amazing throws as well as some beautiful ball fakes. He threw for 343 passing yards, while tossing in four touchdowns with two interceptions. As a runner, he also had 57 rushing yards and a touchdown, giving him five total for the night. The Miami signal-caller has now accounted for 20 touchdowns in five games, 18 passing and two rushing.

Tight end Elijah Arroyo hauled in two catches for 88 yards and a touchdown for Miami. He led the team in receiving yards and tied for touchdown catches on Friday night. ‘Canes receiver Xavier Restrepo hauled in five catches for 60 yards. And wideout Jacolby George hauled in four catches for 59 yards and a touchdown in the win.

The loss will surely sting for Virginia Tech, who felt like Friday night’s game slipped away. And there’s got to be a ton of joy and elation on the side of the Miami Hurricanes. But, no matter what side you’re on, it was an absolute classic game of college football. And a firm reminder of why college football is the best sport on the planet. The Hokies and ‘Canes delivered one that won’t be soon forgotten. And for that, college football fans across the country should thank them.
