When Indianapolis Colts receiver Michael Pittman tried to compliment his quarterback Matt Ryan this week, it hilariously came out the wrong way. After Pittman told reporters that “Matt can pretty much put it wherever he wants,” he took to Twitter clarify that his comments were strictly related to football.

“Poor choice of words, but y’all know what I meant,” Pittman wrote, laughing at himself.

Ryan was traded to the Colts this offseason after spending the past 14 seasons with the Atlanta Falcons. The NFL veteran bring a long list of accolades with him to Indianapolis, including for Pro Bowl appearances and the 2016 MVP award. There he is set to be the team’s fifth starting quarterback in as many seasons.

Michael Pittman will likely be Matt Ryan’s top target in Indianapolis. A second round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, the receiver had a breakout year in 2021 to finish with 88 catches for 1,082 yards and six touchdowns. With Ryan as his quarterback, he could be in store for an even bigger season in 2022.

After making the playoffs during Pittman’s rookie season, the Colts finished 9-8 this past year to miss the postseason. Their passing offense ranked as the 26th best in the NFL in 2021 with an average of just 197.7 air yards per game. There is hope that the addition of Ryan can help them be more productive in that area during 2022.

If it does, the Colts offense could transform into one of the league’s most balanced attacks. Running back Jonathan Taylor also had a major breakout last year, leading the NFL in both rushing yards (1,811) and touchdowns (18).

Although the gaffe from Pittman certainly provided a chuckle for Colts fans, the sentiment of the comment should still get them excited to see what’s in store. It appears the two have been working on developing their chemistry this offseason, and Pittman could be in store for his best season yet.
