Michael Taaffe recalls Danny Stutsman viral Red River shirts: 'I do remember everything'
In any decent rivalry there’s a bit of good-natured ribbing. Sometimes it can extend even beyond that. Oklahoma won last year’s Red River Rivalry against Texas and took the opportunity to flirt with that line ever so slightly.
Following a 34-30 win over Texas, Oklahoma linebacker Danny Stutsman created a T-shirt that read “Oklahoma only fears God. Texas fears Oklahoma.”
It’s an image that likely rubbed dozens of Texas players the wrong way, providing fuel and motivation for this year’s Red River Rivalry rematch, set to be played this weekend. But if so, the Longhorns are doing a good job keeping it relatively under wraps.
Junior defensive back Michael Taaffe commented on the shirts this week in the lead-up to the game.
“It’s a new season,” Taaffe said, according to Campbell Choate of TSTV Sports. “We’ve got a whole new team. I’m not too focused on what they did last year, what we did last year. But I do remember everything.”

The T-shirts weren’t the only trolling that Stutsman did of Texas, either. He also had a “Horns Down” “tattoo” placed on his body, which he showed off on the Pat McAfee Show in the run-in to the game.
After the fact, Stutsman was asked if it was real and if he still had the tattoo.
“I mean, I’ve kind of kept it up. You know, it might be real or it might be fake,” Stutsman said as he pulled up the right leg of his shorts to show off evidence of the anti-Texas symbol, which was still there. “But I think you guys can see it right there.”
McAfee was impressed and commented that “it looks pretty real.” Stutsman then added: “It could be a temporary tattoo. I mean, I’ll kind of leave it up. Maybe in 20 or 25 years we can go back to this discussion. But Texas fans, it is whatever they want to believe.”
Whatever the case, this year’s Red River Rivalry figures to be particularly juicy. Texas is the top-ranked team in the country, entering on a high note as the lone unbeaten team in the SEC in its first year in the new conference. Oklahoma is hoping to keep its playoff hopes alive.
The two teams are scheduled for a 3:30 p.m. ET kickoff on ABC on Saturday.
