USF running back Michel Dukes suspended indefinitely amid domestic violence accusations
South Florida running back Michel Dukes was suspended indefinitely amid domestic violence accusations over the weekend, according to an initial report from TMZ.
The former Clemson running back transferred to South Florida ahead of the 2022 season. He was accused of strangling a person in a domestic violence attack and the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said the incident happened near USF’s campus.
The altercation turned physical after a verbal argument. Dukes was since released but was booked on a charge of domestic battery by strangulation.
The Bulls athletic department released a statement amid the incident.
“We have taken the immediate step of suspending him indefinitely from the team as we continue to gather more information and the proper authorities investigate the matter,” USF athletics said in a statement following the arrest. “We will have no further statement at this time.”
The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office also commented on the incident.
“We do not tolerate domestic violence,” the statement read. “There is never a reason or excuse for this type of behavior. Our Victim Advocates will ensure this individual gets connected with any and all resources.”

Dukes played four collegiate seasons, but just one game in 2021, his final with Clemson. He played sparingly for Clemson and USF.
Dukes dealt with a “team issue” that ultimately led to his departure from Clemson in 2021.
“Just had a team issue this week with him and just felt like it was time to move on,” head coach Dabo Swinney said back in 2021 on Dukes’ departure. “He hasn’t really played. You hate it. Again, that’s kind of where we are with college football. And he is one of the best athletes on this team. It takes a lot more than that. I wish him nothing but the best and I will do anything I can to help him. Just focused on the guys that are here.”
Last season, Dukes had 54 carries, 188 yards, five touchdowns, 3.5 yards per carry, eight catches and 72 receiving yards. In his career, Dukes had 96 carries, 400 yards, seven touchdowns, 4.2 yards per catch, seven touchdowns, nine catches and 75 receiving yards.
As a member of the Class of 2019, Dukes was a three-star recruit out of Charleston (S.C.) First Baptist Church School, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He was the No. 15 overall prospect in the class, the No. 87 running back in the class and the No. 982 overall prospect in the class.
