LOOK: Michigan basketball honors Virginia shooting victims with pregame warmup shirts
Ahead of the ACC/Big Ten Showdown matchup between Virginia and Michigan in Ann Arbor on Tuesday night, the Wolverines made a small gesture to pay tribute to the three Virginia football players killed in a shooting earlier in November.
The shirts read “Michigan basketball stands with UVA” across the front and bore the last names of the three killed — Devin Chandler, D’Sean Perry and Lavel Davis — on the back. On the front under the words are the respective jersey numbers of the slain Virginia players.
There was also a moment of silence prior to tipoff.
Michigan held a 45-34 lead over Virginia at the half.
The warmups are the latest in a long line of gestures to Virginia following the tragedy
On Sunday night, three Virginia football players were shot and killed. Two others were wounded, one of whom was in critical condition. It’s a tragedy that has shaken the UVA community and led to an outpouring of support from around the country.
Now, the Virginia state colleges have decided to make a show of solidarity by wearing a special decal on their helmets to honor the victims. Among the teams doing this are James Madison, Liberty, Old Dominion, Virginia Tech, Richmond, and William & Mary.
