Michigan has largely put the finishing touches on its 2025 class, which ranks among the top 10 nationally in the On3 Industry Football Team Recruiting Rankings. With only one major target still left on the board, the Wolverines’ staff is out on the road visiting top 2026 targets.

Very high on that list is four-star running back Savion Hiter out of Mineral (Va.) Louisa County. The nation’s No. 1 junior running back according to On3, Hiter is as coveted of a prospect as there is in the country. And Michigan is very much in the mix at the top of his recruitment.

On Wednesday, U-M sent five coaches — including head coach Sherrone Moore and RBs coach Tony Alford — to visit Hiter at his school.

That kind of effort has the Wolverines among his top schools right now.

“Georgia, Michigan, Ohio State, Tennessee, they’re all pretty up there,” he told On3’s Steve Wiltfong of who stands out right now in his recruitment.

He plans to take official visits to each in the summer before making a final decision. But one is setting the pace as the process continues.

Wolverines standing out early to Hiter

“Definitely Michigan,” Hiter said. “Michigan was a great visit. They treated me like it’s home. Coach Alford he’s a great coach. He knows how to coach ’em right. He has a great relationship with all his running backs. He knows how to coach em up.”

Moore, and the program’s wins over both Alabama and Ohio State this season, are also making a big impression.

“Just for it being his first year as head coach, he’s doing a great job,” he said. “We can all see that. He has plenty of great years to come.”

Georgia, Tennessee and Ohio State will make this recruitment a battle, though. The Buckeyes in particular have pushed the idea of Hiter joining Running Back U.

“Coach Locklyn is a straight-forward guy,” he said of OSU’s running backs coach. “He doesn’t BS around anything. He doesn’t beat around the bush. He’ll tell you straight-up what you need to improve on and what you need to do. They’re also RBU. Ezekiel Elliott, TreVeyon Henderson coming out of there now. Quinshon Judkins too.”

As a junior, Hiter accounted for 1,897 total yards and 29 touchdowns on offense to go with 56 tackles, seven sacks, four tackles for loss and one interception on defense.
