Marrero (La.) Archbishop Shaw running back Jasper Parker announced his commitment to Michigan on Saturday.

Parker emerged during the spring as a top target for first-year head coach Sherrone Moore and his staff, with new position coach Tony Alford the leading the charge recruiting him on the trail.

“Just the importance of graduating from The M,” Parker told On3. “Beyond it, you have a National Title contender every year and you’re among some of the greatest coaches to coach the game including the running back room in Tony Alford.

“They produce on and off the field. It was an opportunity I couldn’t miss.”

The 6-foot-1, 200-pound Parker chose the Maize and Blue over an offer list that also included Oklahoma State and North Carolina.

Parker visited Ann Arbor back in April so he arrived on his official with strong feelings about Michigan. However he did not know he was going to commit prior to his trip.

“I kind of felt it as soon as I got on campus,” Parker said. “I was going to go somewhere that felt right for me. We have a Louisiana guy, Coach Ron Bellamy.

“What’s not to be excited about? The things they did last year, through all the adversity they fought through. Coach Moore showed his stripes many times. Just a dependable guy. Knows how important The M is. Following his leadership is definitely going to be fun.”

Parker is commit No. 8 for Michigan in the 2025 class, a haul On3 ranks No. 13 nationally.

“Just the importance of being a Michigan man,” Parker stated. “Coach Alford’s track record paired with Coach Moore’s expertise was an opportunity I couldn’t pass up.”
