Michigan's Bryce Underwood ranked No. 1 in final 2025 On300 rankings
Michigan football has its quarterback of the future in Bryce Underwood, who was named the No. 1 overall prospect in the final 2025 On300 rankings on Thursday.
The Belleville (Mich.) star, who enrolled early this month and joined the team for bowl practices in December, went wire-to-wire as the No. 1 player in On3’s rankings dating back to 2023.
Underwood was a longtime commit to LSU for much of his recruitment after pledging to the Tigers in early January 2024. But buoyed by a massive NIL investment in Underwood, the Wolverines pulled off one of the biggest flips in recent memory by landing him. He is the first No. 1 overall recruit the program has signed since Rashan Gary in 2016.
He has drawn plenty of lofty comparisons over the past few years, notably former Heisman Trophy winner Vince Young and current Buffalo Bills All-Pro Josh Allen. But what stands out about him, according to his private quarterbacks coach, is his work ethic.
“Bryce is a worker,” Donovan Dooley told TheWolverine.com. “He’s a continuous learner. He’s going to ask good questions. It sounds cliché, but he’s the first on the field and last to leave. He immerses himself in the quarterback position. He never gets complacent. What you should expect is him being a leader amongst men. He’ll lead the huddle and go compete. I don’t see why he wouldn’t rise to the top and win some games for Michigan.”

Underwood recently wrapped up an historic career
The 6-foot-4, 214-pounder put together one of the most dominant high school careers in Michigan history, re-writing all kinds of records. Underwood threw for 2,888 yards and 39 touchdowns with only four interceptions during his freshman season to lead Belleville to a state championship. He then led Belleville to a perfect 14-0 record and another state title in 2022, amassing 2,762 yards and 37 touchdowns as a sophomore.
Following a junior season where he threw for a career-high 3,329 yards with 44 TDs, he was so dominant as a senior that his numbers dropped off because his team rarely played him beyond the third quarter.
Despite that, he threw for 2,321 yards and 30 touchdowns to just five interceptions, completing over 71 percent of his passes. He also rushed for 582 yards and 10 scores. Following the season, he was honored as the state’s Gatorade Player of the Year.
He is expected to compete for Michigan’s starting job this spring and fall with transfer Mikey Keene, as Wolverines fans await the Underwood Era’s beginning.
