Michigan and Wisconsin don’t play each other for another six weeks, but chatter is heating up about the matchup. Hunter Dickinson had some poignant comments about the Badgers in a recent interview.

Dickinson joined the “Roundball Podcast” and shared how he feels about Wisconsin. He didn’t hold back, either.

“Wisconsin, though … they’re scumbags,” Dickinson said. “That’s what it is. It’s what it is. … They’re just scumbags. Nothing I could say about Wisconsin is going to fire up the matchup even more, so it’s like, it already is what it is. But yeah. They’re scumbags.”

Tensions ran high during last year’s matchup late in the regular season, and the game ended with a spat between head coaches Juwan Howard and Greg Gard. Other coaches got involved and Howard ended up striking a Wisconsin assistant, resulting in a suspension through the end of the regular season.

That incident will all but certainly be a storyline when the two teams square off at the Kohl Center on Valentine’s Day. In fact, Dickinson said both sides feel the same way about each other.

“The feeling could not be any more mutual. … It’s not like it’s a one-sided beef where it’s like I’m mad at Mark Turgeon for not recruiting me and the players have no reason to be mad at me,” Dickinson said. “This one is very mutual.”

Both teams are on different tracks this season, though. Wisconsin takes a 10-2 overall record into Tuesday’s conference showdown with Minnesota in Madison as Big Ten play heats up. The Badgers notched conference victories over Maryland and Iowa in December and are now looking to improve to 3-0 in league play.

Michigan, meanwhile, is 8-5 overall and also 2-0 in league play after a resounding victory over Maryland on New Year’s Day. The Wolverines are set to welcome Penn State Wednesday night in Ann Arbor.
