Michigan made one final big splash in the 2025 recruiting cycle, landing a commitment from Denton (Texas) Ryan four-star offensive tackle Ty Haywood on Thursday.

The former Alabama commit came back on the board very late in the process in January, though Michigan had picked up steam in his recruitment far before then. Once it was clear that Haywood wouldn’t sign during the December period, arrows began to point toward the Wolverines.

After an official visit to Ann Arbor, head coach Sherrone Moore and U-M have now added the nation’s No. 48 recruit and No. 8 OT to a loaded 2025 class. With the addition of Haywood, the Wolverines’ class jumped three spots and now ranks No. 6 in the nation, per the On3 Industry Team Recruiting Rankings.

Haywood flanks Belleville (Mich.) Five-Star Plus+ quarterback Bryce Underwood, the nation’s No. 1 overall prospect, as well as Overland Park (Kan.) Blue Valley Northwest five-star OT Andrew Babalola, the No. 16 recruit, at the top of the class.

Michigan flourished at the end of the recruiting cycle

Michigan made a serious statement at the end of the year when it managed to flip Underwood from LSU on Nov. 21. Obviously, his pledge changed things for U-M on the trail.

“He’s as good as any high school quarterback I’ve seen play football,” Sherrone Moore said of Underwood. Underwood threw for 2,321 yards and 30 touchdowns to just five interceptions, completing over 71 percent of his passes in 2024.

Oak Park (Ill.) Fenwick four-star defensive lineman Nate Marshall is as top-40 recruit who flipped back to the Wolverines from Auburn on Dec. 3. Monroe (N.C.) four-star safety Jordan Young, a top-100 player in the On300, originally committed to Clemson but then flipped on Dec. 1. IMG Academy (Fla.) four-star linebacker Nathaniel Owusu-Boateng pledged on Dec. 4.

Babalola also helped get the ball rolling once he committed at the end of October. Between his commitment and Underwood’s, Michigan also flipped Chester (Va.) Thomas Earls four-star cornerback Shamari Earls — On3’s No. 88 recruit and No. 12 CB — from Georgia and also landed Underwood’s high school teammate, four-star CB Elijah Dotson.

The class is loaded in the secondary. In addition to Earls, Dotson and Young, Montgomery Village (Md.) Gonzaga four-star safety Kainoa Winston is a top-50 recruit in the On300. Kilgore (Texas) four-star CB Jayden Sanders is also signed and is a top-25 player at his position.

Other blue-chippers in the class include: Fulshear (Texas) Katy Jordan four-star wide receiver Andrew Marsh, New Orleans Archbishop Shaw four-star WR Jacob Washington, Franklin (Mich.) Wylie E. Groves four-star interior offensive lineman Avery Gach, Newburgh (Ind.) Castle four-star DL Benny Patterson and Marrero (La.) Archbishop Shaw four-star running back Jasper Parker.
