The latest edition of “The Game” between Michigan and Ohio State set a new record for FOX in viewership for a regular season game. According to viewership numbers from Saturday, the Big Ten rivalry was the most-watched regular season college football game ever for FOX with 17 million viewers. The game was also the most-watched regular season game in the past 11 years.

Michigan and Ohio State set viewership record

Hearing that 17 million viewers tuned in to watch a showdown between the two storied programs is impressive enough, but knowing that it happened in the middle of the day during rivalry week while multiple huge games were playing at the same time shows just how important The Game was this year.

Michigan entered the showdown ranked third in the nation with Ohio State ranked second — and a trip to the Big Ten Championship Game and potentially the College Football Playoff was on the line. The Wolverines managed to pull off the 45-23 win in Ohio Stadium, their first win there since 2000. Now, Michigan is one win away from a second-consecutive trip to the CFP.
