Michigan-based baseball team trolls Ryan Day, offers 3rd Base Coach role
It has been a tough couple of days for Ohio State coach Ryan Day. He has been criticized and trolled following his team’s loss to Michigan on Saturday, with a baseball team out of Michigan being the latest to join in.
The Kalamazoo Growlers sent out a press release on Monday announcing that they have offered Ryan Day their third base coaching position. The Growlers are members of the Northwoods League, which is a summer collegiate baseball league.
The troll is in reference to comments Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh made about Ryan Day a couple of years back.
“Some people who are standing on third base think they hit a triple, but they didn’t,” Harbaugh said following Michigan’s win in 2021.
The Wolverines have now won three straight in the rivalry series, despite Harbaugh being suspended for Saturday’s game.
The Growlers said in a release that the position would begin in May and “would involve coaching third base, surveillance and scouting.”
“We think Ryan was born for the position,” Kalamazoo Growlers Owner Brian Colopy said in a statement. “We will do whatever it takes to get Ryan to Kalamazoo.”

Jim Harbaugh finally addressed ‘born on third base’ comment directed at Ryan Day, Ohio State
Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh declined to say at first whether or not he was referring to Ryan Day when he made comments about some people being born on third base in 2021.
However, he finally did last November and admitted that he was talking about the Ohio State head coach.
Apparently, in 2020, Harbaugh had some testy thoughts to share over how Day ran his program, which prompted Day to reportedly tell his players that Michigan ought to hope for a mercy rule since the Buckeyes would beat them by 100.
Last November, Harbaugh admitted that those mercy rule comments irked him, saying that the third base comment “was definitely a counterpunch by me to the comment that they’re going to hang 100 on us.”
Day was also asked about the 2021 comments by Jim Harbaugh ahead of the 2022 matchup. Day declined to comment, saying instead that he was focused on the game.
“Like I said, there’s certain things you listen to and there’s certain things you don’t, and any time you’re at a high profile game with a lot of stuff going on, there’s a lot of things said,” Day explained. “There’s a time and a place to talk about that and it’s not now.”
