Michigan State lands commitment from UMass RB Kay'Ron Lynch-Adams
Michigan State has lost two running back to the transfer portal in the past 48 hours.
Now the Spartans have added one. UMass running back Kay’Ron Lynch-Adams has committed to the Spartans, On3 has learned.
The former Rutgers transfer spent the last three seasons with the Minutemen. With a final season of eligibility remaining, he’ll spend it in East Lansing.
In his three years at UMass, the 5-foot-10, 205-pound running back rushed for 1,568 yards and 14 touchdowns. This past season he ran for 1,157 yards and 12 scores, becoming just the second UMass running back to achieve 1,000-plus yards rushing in a season in the FBS era. A Phil Steele All-Independent Team selection, he averaged 4.9 yards per carry.
“A year ago [Lynch-Adams] was banged up, and we didn’t get the best that he had to offer,” UMass head coach Don Brown said this past season. “This year we’re getting the best out of Kay’Ron. He’s playing at a high level. He’s not the biggest guy in the world but he just finds a way to gain yards and make guys miss, but he’s gaining a lot of yards after contact and he’s a great kid, too.”

The Spartans have seen running backs Jalen Berger and Davion Primm both head to the portal this week. The two combined for just 32 carries in 2023, however, the addition of Lynch-Adams gives Michigan State an experienced tailback in the backfield. Berger started his career off at Wisconsin and was a productive back in 2022, posting 683 rushing yards and six touchdowns.
A threat in the passing game, Lynch-Adams racked up 288 career receiving yards on 35 receptions with a touchdown. He initially announced plans to enter the NFL Draft and then entered the portal in December.
Now Kay’Ron Lynch-Adams is headed back to the Big Ten.
