Michigan lands a commitment from disruptive EDGE Tariq Boney

Washington (DC) St. John’s edge rusher Tariq Boney has committed to Michigan.
The 6-foot-2, 230-pound Boney chose to play for head coach Sherrone Moore and his staff over Cincinnati and Tulane. Other offers included Georgia, Washington, Indiana, Duke, Penn State and Texas A&M.
Boney visited Ann Arbor earlier this spring.
“Just the rich history,” Boney said. “Their ability to develop guys. Just the coaches. It was the right fit.”

Boney becomes commit No. 5 for Michigan in the 2026 recruiting cycle. He is the second verbal of the day following four-star quarterback Brady Smigiel.
“From the alumni to the education, Michgian is a place you want to be,” Boney said. “People talk about it a lot, it’s a big stage. You get a chance to compete every day.”
Boney is an athletic edge rusher, a playmaker that has twich, speed to power and playmaking ability. He gets after the quarterback. The Wolverines offered in January and quickly got Boney in the fold.
“Everything that you want to see in program,” Boney said.
Boney also sports a 3.7 GPA.
