Michigan vs. Maryland odds: Early point spread released on Wolverines, Terrapins

Michigan, despite all the off-the-field issues facing the football program, moved to 10-0 and took another step to a third-straight Big Ten championship. And in the final game before a gargantuan matchup against Ohio State to end the season, Michigan will travel to face Maryland.

Unsurprisingly, the Wolverines are prohibitive favorites. Michigan opened as a 20.5-point favorite over Maryland, according to FanDuel. The over/under was set at 50.5 points for the total.

It’s been a whirlwind few days for Michigan, which saw head coach Jim Harbaugh suspended for the final three games of the regular season by the Big Ten and commissioner Tony Petitti on Friday afternoon. But despite Harbaugh watching from a hotel room, Michigan passed its first major test of the season, grinding Penn State into submission in a 24-15 road win.

The Wolverines, coached on Saturday by offensive coordinator and line coach Sherrone Moore, ran the ball 32 times to end the game. There was a pass attempt during that span, but it doesn’t officially count in the stats due to a defensive pass interference on the play.

Maryland, while playing in a much lower-profile game, faced a similar grind to a road victory, outlasting Nebraska, 13-10. A pair of fourth quarter field goals from Jack Howes, to tie the game and then take the lead, pushed the Terrapins to a sixth win and bowl eligibility.

Michigan enjoyed the win over Penn State upon returning to Ann Arbor

Michigan fans are continuing to stick by Harbaugh as he serves a suspension amid an ongoing NCAA investigation. The Big Ten suspended Harbaugh for the final three games of the regular season, beginning Saturday when the Wolverines faced No. 10 Penn State.

Michigan earned a hard-fought 24-15 victory against the Nittany Lions and Harbaugh was later seen with running back Blake Corum and other members of the team at the Wolverines’ hockey game that evening. Corum was coming off of a 145-yard performance in the win in which he scored two touchdowns, and Harbaugh gave him props in front of the home crowd.

The coach made a gesture as if he were putting a crown on the running back’s head as “free Jim Harbaugh” chants erupted from those in attendance.

While Harbaugh’s coaching fate is tied up in court proceedings for the time being, he’s clearly got plenty of support from those around Ann Arbor and Michigan football.
