Mike Brey hilariously calls out ACC for Pat Narduzzi fine
Given his own experience being fined by the ACC, Mike Brey was a little puzzled by the punishment Pittsburgh coach Pat Narduzzi received from the conference. It was reported Sunday that Narduzzi was fined $5,000 for comments he made on the officiating after a 38-34 win against West Virginia on Saturday.
That caused Brey, who was previously the men’s basketball coach at Notre Dame, to take to social media to call out the conference. The coach revealed that he was fined four times as much after he criticized the referees following a game against Florida State in January 2020.
“Pitt fball coach gets 5000$ fine from ACC for talking about the refs…mine was 20k!?!?” he wrote.
It’s unclear why there was such a large difference between the amount that Narduzzi and Brey were fined. One certainly can’t blame Brey for being upset, even if it did happen more than four years ago.

Brey resigned as the Notre Dame coach following the 2022-23 season after 23 years at the helm. He currently is an assistant coach for the NBA’s Atlanta Hawks.

What Pat Narduzzi said about officials in WVU win
The feelings in the Backyard Brawl are as intense as they’ve ever been, and Narduzzi surely let everyone know about it in his postgame comments. Even with the win, he was upset about the officiating and let the sideline reporter know about it on the field.
“I mean, some of the calls we got? Late hit out of bounds, they catch a ball with a hands in the face. I’ve never seen anything like it, you know. Wow!” Narduzzi said afterward to the broadcast on ESPN2. “We beat West Virginia in The Backyard Brawl and we beat the officials too in one game.”
However, Narduzzi also gave plenty of credit to his team for finding a way to win over WVU.
“The comeback kids, man. I tell ya. That football team right there has got that right in the chest cavity. We talked about it last night. I mean that’s a gut win again. Just tells you what kind of character we have in that locker room. They never gave up,” said Narduzzi. “I can’t say enough about the players in that locker room.”
“Again, the players in the arena made the plays. They made enough plays to win the football game,” Narduzzi said. “It’s personal and we’re going to have a damn good time in the locker room. Hail to Pitt!”
