Trash-talking between Missouri and Texas A&M began on Friday night when the Tigers arrived in College Station. Wide receiver Theo Wease found a note and blanket, supposedly from Aggies cornerback Will Lee just hours before kickoff. Lee’s nickname is ‘Blanket’ and was a warning sent to Wease before the two faced each other.

Well, people on the Texas A&M side have denied involvement in the situation. In fact, Mike Elko believes Eli Drinkwitz was the one behind the shenanigans, attempting to motivate his own player. Elko urged the media to ask the Mizzou headman about it, not him.

“My suggestion would be you guys go ask Eli where that came from,” Elko said. “Because I have a strong feeling that that came from the other side and had nothing to do with Texas A&M, Will Lee, or anybody over here. So, you should point that one on the other side.”

Lee has been one of the best corners in the SEC this season and from the outside, was calling his shot against Missouri’s second-leading receiver entering the day. Nothing wrong with some pregame talk but leaving a gift for an opposing player was something new in college football.

“Get used to this blanket,” the letter left in Wease’s hotel room on Friday said. “It will be real tomorrow.”

No matter whose idea this was, Texas A&M and Lee ultimately got the last laugh. Not only did the Aggies get a monster win in front of the Kyle Field crowd, Wease was not too much of a factor. He caught two passes for 72 yards and a touchdown but the big scoring play came when the game was pretty much already decided.

If Drinkwitz was trying to get something out of his player, as Elko accuses him of doing so, he will need to get back to the drawing board. Missouri will be right back at it on the road next week, facing off against UMass.
