Mike McCarthy provides update on Dak Prescott's ankle after limited practice Thursday
Dallas Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy gave an update on Dak Prescott’s ankle injury on 105.3 the Fan. The injury kept Prescott limited in practice ahead of Week 1.
“I just saw him (this morning). He’s doing fine. Just being cautious. Any time something happens close to where he had the injury, you just have to look at it and be smart. It’s not a big deal,” Mike McCarthy said.
From what it sounds like, the injury shouldn’t prevent Dak Prescott from missing any time on Sunday against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. However, whenever a quarterback suffers from an ankle injury it can affect their mobility and ability to push off.

After the practice in which Dak Prescott left with an apparent injury, he tried to make it clear that it wasn’t a major issue. He said he was having an issue with his cleats, which is what kept him limited in practice. He was wearing these cleats to help with his surgically repaired ankle, which he broke in 2020.
“I promise you I’m great,” Dak Prescott said. “Just being very, very precautious. Switched shoes today, probably wasn’t the best idea. We’re good to go. Promise that.”

Dak Prescott went on to explain that he was on the injury report due to NFL rules, which require every injury to be noted.
“That’s this league, and if you don’t report a hangnail, you’ll get suspended or they’ll get fined, excuse me,” Dak Prescott said. “But, no, I feel great. I still feel the best that I’ve felt in a very, very long time. Not even comparable to where I was last year going into this game. Honestly, just excited and ready for Sunday to get here.”
If Dak Prescott is unable to go for some reason or suffers a new injury, then the Cowboys will likely turn to Will Grier or Cooper Rush. However, Prescott doesn’t think this will happen. When asked if this injury could sideline him, he said, “Not at all. It can’t. Not at all. Not a chance.”
