PICKING Florida State vs Memphis | Can Seth Henigan, Tigers SHOCK the Seminoles in Tallahassee?

Through two games, the Florida State Seminoles are winless and head coach Mike Norvell knows that a large reason for that has been the struggles that the offense has had.

While speaking to media members, Norvell addressed the play of quarterback DJ Uiagalelei and the offense as a whole, noting that there have been issues and that everyone, including himself, needs to be better moving forward.

“I’m not gonna get into specifics but there have been issues,” Mike Norvell said. “I say ‘issues’ it’s not pointing to one person, to one group. I think that we have to be more consistent overall as an offense, and there’s been times where obviously he’s been on point or maybe we’re a couple of yards too deep on route depth or maybe there’s a protection issue. There’s different elements.”

Through two games this season, Uiagalelei is completing 58 percent of his passes for 465 yards. He has a touchdown and an interception. On top of that, he has rushed for two yards on 14 carries this season.

“Like I mentioned at the game, there’s been a few missed throws that he’s had whether that was due to a drop or a progression. I think those are all opportunities for us to get better. It’s definitely not been all on him. I’ve really liked his mindset and his approach. He’s got a lot of experience and he understands how to play the game. He understands how to respond to good and obviously to responding to some of the challenges that showed up,” Norvell said.

“I think he’s brought the right attitude and approach to what we need and to what we need to continue to do as this offense is growing together.”

Beyond Uiagalelei, Florida State has had plenty of issues this season. The offensive line and the running game have struggled. The Seminoles are averaging 59.5 rushing yards per game through Week 2. That is currently 128th out of 134 FBS teams in rushing offense. That has left a lot on Uiagalelei and the passing game’s shoulders.

“We all have to be better. Myself. All positions. That’s part of us continuing to forge the identity of who we are and then just the consistency of our execution. Like I’ve said, I said it coming out of the last game, I’ve got to do a better job of putting our guys in a position to go be successful doing the things that I know that they can do and that’s gotta translate on gameday.”

The next game is going to be another tough one for Florida State as the Seminoles host the Memphis Tigers.
