Mike Norvell discusses Florida State's locker room mindset after 0-2 start

The Florida State Seminoles came into the 2024 season with high expectations. However, after dropping their first two games to ACC opponents, head coach Mike Norvell is looking to find a way to quickly turn the season around.
Norvell recently discussed Florida State’s mindset after the 0-2 start and how the locker room is handling the situation as the Seminoles go into a bye week.
“Our team, I haven’t felt, seen, heard anything beyond that,” Mike Norvell said. “The guys recognize. They know what good play is. They know times when it’s not just like I know a good play call and I know times when it’s not.”
Florida State opened the season in Week 0 against Georgia Tech in Dublin. That game ended up being a close loss on a field goal as time expired. The Seminoles then returned home for a Week 1 game against Boston College, which the Eagles won by a score of 28-13.

“You sit there and you own the actions that you have,” Norvell said. “You own the performance that you have. Then, you try to figure out why. Why did that occur? Why did I think in this moment this was the best play? Would I do that again? Would I change things up? Same thing with players. If we spend a week working to utilize this technique in this look or this fit or whatever that is, this route depth, why in the moment is it different?”

On the field, there have been plenty of issues. Transfer quarterback DJ Uiagalelei has struggled this season, completing 58 percent of his passes for 465 yards. He has one touchdown and one interception so far this season.
On top of that, the Seminoles have struggled mightily both running the ball and stopping the run. Through two games, Florida State is averaging 59.5 rushing yards per game while giving up 226.5 yards per game.
“That’s where you have to be able to, and I have to make sure, that the things that we’re doing or how I’m putting our guys in the best position to be able to transition to play our best on gameday. For that to show up,” Norvell said. “Obviously, for guys to take that step and improvement with all the things that they’re working to do.”
Now, Mike Norvell and Florida State are on a bye week to try and address those issues. After that, the Seminoles will take on the Memphis Tigers in a non-conference game.
