The disastrous season for Florida State continued on Saturday. Memphis, the place where Mike Norvell was hired from, came to Tallahassee and headed back home as winners. Three straight losses have seen the Seminoles begin 2024 with a 0-3 record, the second time it’s happened in Norvell’s tenure.

Not even the press conferences are going well for the Seminoles. Norvell was addressing the media following the game and in the background, you can hear the fire alarms going off. “Attention, there is a fire emergency in the building. You are to leave the building by the nearest exit or exit stairwell” is being played in the background.

Once Norvell wrapped up his answer — discussing how Florida State will continue to work despite struggling through three games this season — the press conference was over. He shuffled out of the room before the video provided on social media was cut off.

Florida State got an early start to the season, facing Georgia Tech in Dublin. One week later, they were once again in primetime against Boston College, taking place on Labor Day. Both wound up being highly-showcased losses, highlighted by the struggles of the offense and quarterback DJ Uiagalelei.

Coming out of a bye week gave Norvell an opportunity to reset his team and move forward.

But losing to Memphis is another huge step back. Norvell admits everybody inside the program needs to be better but does credit his players for continuing to work through the struggles.

“We all have to do a better job,” Norvell said during his postgame press conference. “…We can’t continue to come into games and see things that are absolutely not a part of who we are show up. So we all have to prepare better… These guys have not stopped working.”

The road does not get any easier for Florida State moving forward. Three straight ACC games are on deck, beginning with next Saturday against Cal. A trip to new conference foe SMU will next on the docket while this stretch is rounded out by Clemson coming to Tallahassee.

Once the fire alarm stops going off, Norvell will have some work to do. Tough decisions are ahead of the head coach after three consecutive losses. Rattling off three straight wins might be required to have an opportunity to somewhat salvage what’s turning into a dreadful season for Florida State.
