Following news that surfaced from police on Friday that star Memphis signee Mikey Williams‘ arrest was due to him allegedly firing a gun at a car of people, the Williams camp is pushing back.

Troy P. Owens, a San Diego based attorney, posted a letter on Instagram noting that Williams has retained his services and pushing back on “several narratives being advanced” stemming from the incident.

The letter does not specifically refute or deny the allegations that Williams fired the gun.

What does not appear to be in dispute is that there was a group of people gathered at a house during a March 27 altercation and that a group of individuals left the home. That’s where Owens’ letter picks up with Williams’ side of the story.

“During the aftermath of this disturbance, there were reports of shots being fired,” the letter reads. “Mr. Williams is alleged to match the description of the shooter. As a result, a search warrant was executed at the home and Mr. Williams was arrested.

“He has posted bond and looks forward to addressing any allegations against him using the established procedures in our justice system.”

Williams’ story has received a ton of attention, as he is not only a top basketball prospect in the 2023 recruiting class, but a viral sensation on various social media platforms.

To that end, Owens called for any untoward behavior toward his client to end.

“While this case has received significant attention in the last 24 hours, we ask that people appreciate the fact that Mr. Williams is an 18-year-old high school student,” Owens wrote. “Harassment, threats, or any other behavior of the sort is unwarranted. We are aware of several narratives being advanced online that are not factual and are designed to humiliate Mr. Williams.

“We are confident that the truth will come to light.”
