Lincoln Riley responds to TMZ report on Miller Moss, investigation into alleged roommate dispute
Lincoln Riley has responded to a TMZ report on Miller Moss published Tuesday. The report detailed an investigation between the USC quarterback and his roommate in 2022.
According to the report, the university looked into an alleged dispute between the two in May 2022. USC didn’t discuss the specifics of the investigation, but noted the case was “resolved and settled.”
Riley deferred to Moss and the university’s statements while speaking with reporters on Tuesday. He also spoke highly of his quarterback’s character in his response.
“Both the university and Miller released statements,” Riley said. “Something that’s been settled a long, long time ago. Very, we’ll call it interesting, the timing. That’s a high-quality individual there. That’s one guy you’ve got to be careful about going after, because the character of him, everything that he does, is as high as anybody that I’ve ever had.”

The dispute was between Moss and Mo Hasan, who also played quarterback at USC, according to The Los Angeles Times. Police did not get involved and no further legal action was taken. A video obtained by TMZ appeared to show Moss saying he was “stealing this shirt” and, in a separate clip, looking through his roommate’s closet.

In its statement, the university discussed its process with such cases. It also confirmed the case was settled.
“We take all student conduct complaints seriously and are legally obligated to keep those matters private and confidential,” the university said in a statement. “Each and every case follows a prescribed and thorough adjudication process as described in the USC Student Handbook. If a student has been found responsible and has fulfilled all of the terms of their discipline, the matter is considered closed. In this case, the matter was resolved and settled two-and-a-half years ago.”
Miller Moss is fresh off a huge performance in his first regular-season game as USC’s starting quarterback. He threw for 378 yards and a touchdown as the Trojans stunned LSU 27-20 in Las Vegas. He also released a statement in light of the report, saying he “learned from this matter.”
“Two and a half years ago, the University conducted an investigation related to a personal dispute between me and a roommate,” Moss said, via TMZ. “I fully cooperated and took accountability for my decisions, and the matter was resolved. I regret my actions and have grown and learned from this matter, and my focus is on the season ahead.”
