Minnesota beats Alabama, keeps state's No. 1 recruit Roman Voss home

Jackson (Minn.) County Central Senior On300 athlete Roman Voss committed to Minnesota on Monday.
The blue-chipper and top-ranked prospect in the state chose to play for head coach PJ Fleck and the Gophers over Alabama, Iowa and Wisconsin among others.
Eric Koehler was the lead recruiter for Voss, who ultimately chose to stay home over heading to Tuscaloosa and playing for the Crimson Tide.
“Coach Koehler was a big difference in my recruiting,” Voss said. “I really developed such a great relationship with him during my process.
“Coach Fleck also. Just Coach Fleck and his enthusiasm and really wanting to make Minnesota relevant and do it with as many hometown Minnesota kids as he can.”
Voss becomes commit No. 23 for Minnesota in the 2026 cycle. The Gophers have a Top 25 class.
“The coaching staff,” Voss’s father Rod added. “The consistency and way they recruited Roman and the way of what they laid out for Roman and how they plan on using him just super impressed with how they are.”

The On3 Industry tabs Voss as the No. 1 recruit in Minnesota, No. 8 athlete in the country and No. 174 prospect overall.
“Thanks to all the schools that recruited me and opportunity from all of them. Alabama did wonderful job recruiting me. Had a good relationship with Coach Ellis, just had to strong of ties to Minnesota and the staff there.”
Voss plays everything from quarterback to tight end, linebacker and safety on the prep level and has the traits to do several things on the next level. Tight end looks like the most natural fit.
Voss is also a near 4.0 student. An A Honor Roll member, National Honor Society recipient and a winner that is 60-2 in his last seven years of playing football.
