A historic moment is set to take place in Austin on Saturday when Mississippi State takes on Texas at Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium. It’s the Longhorns’ first-ever SEC game, hoping to join the conference with a big result against the Bulldogs.

Two head coaches are going up against one another with some familiarity. Jeff Lebby was previously the Oklahoma offensive coordinator and went 1-1 against Texas. Steve Sarkisian is hoping for a game more similar to the 2022 Red River Shootout and 2023.

Before focusing on the game itself, there are some injuries both teams are dealing with. The latest injury report for both teams was released on Friday night, with multiple big names popping up for both sides.

Quarterback decision biggest storyline for Texas

Ever since Quinn Ewers sustained his injury, Sarkisian has maintained the quarterback would be listed as questionable. That quickly turned into him not playing against Louisiana-Monroe, ceding to Arch Manning for his first start on the 40 Acres.

Before the Thursday injury report was revealed, Sarkisian revealed Texas would make its final decision on Friday. He listed him as questionable on the official report. It’s the final opportunity for Ewers to show he has the ability to play at a high level. If not, Manning will once again get the call.

“We’re gonna decide on the quarterback thing tomorrow. It won’t be a secret,” Steve Sarkisian said. “We’re not trying to pull the wool over anybody’s eyes. Just want to give Quinn every opportunity to see if he’s ready to play and what he looks like. I’d say he’s improved every day. I think Arch [Manning] has had a very good week and I would say this, Trey Owens had his best week of practice.”
