Final: Ole Miss 26, Mississippi State 14

Ole Miss sealed the 26-21 victory in the Egg Bowl on a fourth-down run from JJ Pegues with 26 seconds left. The Rebels improve to 9-3 on the season and will now see where they fall in the College Football Playoff picture. The Bulldogs, meanwhile, drop to 2-10 – including 0-8 in SEC play.

Mississippi State drive stalls short of goal line

Mississippi State quarterback Michael Van Buren connected with receiver Kevin Coleman on a pass to get the Bulldogs to the 1-yard line. However, the drive stalled, and Van Buren’s fourth-down pass fell incomplete to turn it over on downs and give Ole Miss the ball back with 5:46 to play.

Caden Prieskorn hauls in wild touchdown catch

A pass interference penalty put Ole Miss in prime scoring territory, and Caden Prieskorn made a highlight-reel play shortly thereafter. He made an incredible catch on the 19-yard touchdown pass from Jaxson Dart to extend the Rebels’ lead to 26-14 with 9:56 to go. The two-point conversion attempt failed.

Ole Miss capitalizes on muffed punt

Mississippi State looked like it would get the ball back on an Ole Miss punt, but Kevin Coleman muffed the return. The Rebels recovered and Caden Davis made the 43-yard field goal to extend their lead to 20-14 with 5:48 to play in the third quarter.

Ole Miss gets it right back

Just three plays into Mississippi State’s first drive of the second half, Trey Washington hauled in an acrobatic interception to give Ole Miss the ball right back. The Rebels took over at the 49-yard line.

Second half underway

Ole Miss got the ball to start the second half, but Jaxson Dart’s third-down run was short of the first down. It marked the Rebels’ third 3-and-out of the game.

After a penalty backed up the Ole Miss offense, kicker Caden Davis missed a 54-yard field goal to end the first half. Ole Miss leads 17-14 over Mississippi State.

Jaxson Dart makes Ole Miss history

With his 17-yard pass to wide receiver Jordan Watkins, Ole Miss quarterback Jaxson Dart has passed Eli Manning as the all-time passing yards leader in Ole Miss school history. Dart has thrown for 10,137 passing yards and counting.

Ulysses Bentley IV rushes for 89-yard TD

Ole Miss running back Ulysses Bentley IV rushed up the left side on first down, making a few Mississippi State defenders before taking off for an 89-yard touchdown run. The Rebels now have a 17-14 lead with 8:40 remaining in the first half.

His touchdown comes after Bentley did not receive a carry against Florida. That’s the longest run in the SEC this year.

Ole Miss sack forces punt

Ole Miss linebacker Chris Paul Jr. came up big on 3rd down for the Rebels, sacking Michael Van Buren for an 11-yard loss and forcing a punt. The Rebels will take over on their 11-yard line trailing 14-10 with 8:55 remaining in the first half.

Ole Miss flagged for out-of-bounds unnecessary roughness

After scrambling out of bounds, Mississippi State quarterback Michael Van Buren was hit in the shoulder by Ole Miss defensive tackle Zxavian Harris, who was flagged for a 15-yard penalty.

Ole Miss goes three-and-out

Ole Miss followed Mississippi State’s 75-yard drive with a three-and-out. The Bulldogs take over on their 23-yard line with 13:52 remaining in the second quarter. Ole Miss has 93 yards on three drives.

Bulldogs take 14-10 lead

Two plays after Michael Van Buren’s 42-yard pass, the quarterback kept the ball and rushed for a 6-yard touchdown. Mississippi State leads 14-10 entering the second quarter.

Mississippi State quarterback Michael Van Buren has already thrown for 116 yards, this time finding wide receiver Jordan Mosley for a 42-yard pickup and putting the Bulldogs on the Ole Miss 15-yard line.

JJ Pegues punches in Ole Miss touchdown

Ole Miss turned to defensive lineman JJ Pegues again in the red zone, punching it in for a five-yard touchdown run. The Rebels take the 10-7 lead with 2:16 remaining in the first quarter. Peagues’ run capped off a 13-play, 75-yard drive. Pegues is 6-foot-5, 335 pounds.

Mississippi State safety Isaac Smith was called for unsportsmanlike conduct on the play.

Mississippi touchdown on fourth down

Facing another 4th down, Mississippi State quarterback Michael Van Burn found wide receiver Kevin Coleman over the middle on a mesh. Coleman took off, running past Ole Miss defenders for a 34-yard touchdown.

Mississippi State leads 7-3 with 7:54 remaining in the first quarter.

Bulldogs pick up first down on fake punt

Facing a 4th-and-7, Mississippi State picked up a first down on a fake punt with 11 minutes remaining in the first quarter. Nick Barr-Mira completed a pass to Justin Ball for the first down.

Mississippi State converts deep ball, called back

Mississippi State quarterback Michael Van Buren found wide receiver Seydou Traore for a 39-yard pickup. The play was put under review and ruled incomplete.

Ole Miss takes early 3-0 lead

Ole Miss put together a quick six-play, 12-yard drive following the interception that stalled out. Kicker Caden Davis converted a 39-yard field goal to take the 3-0 lead with 12:43 remaining in the first quarter.

Michael Van Buren picked off

Mississippi State quarterback Michael Van Burn was picked off on the Bulldogs’ first drive. Ole Miss linebacker Chris Paul grabbed the interception and returned it to the Mississippi State 34-yard line.
