South Alabama is hiring former Southern Miss head coach Jay Hopson as cornerbacks coach, sources tell On3.

The news was first reported by ESPN.

Hopson, who was Southern Miss’ head coach from 2016 to 2020, has been Mississippi State’s director of high school relations the last two years.

Before Mississippi State and Southern Miss, Hopson was a head coach at Alcorn State (2012-15), a defensive coordinator at Memphis (2010-11) and a position coach at places such as Michigan (2008-09) and Ole Miss (2004).

Hopson is the replacement for Dwike Wilson, who left South Alabama for the cornerbacks coach job at Southern Miss.
