Missouri transfer DL Serigne Tounkara commits to California
Former Missouri defensive lineman Serigne Tounkara has committed to California, via the NCAA Transfer Portal. He did not see any action in his lone season with the Tigers and opted to redshirt. He will have four years of eligibility remaining.
Tounkara played high school football at Clear Falls (TX) High School, where he was a three-star prospect. He was the No. 952 overall recruit in the 2023 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
Tounkara is the 19th player California has added in the transfer portal. The team has also lost 22 players in the portal. Despite its losses, California sits at the No. 14 spot in On3’s Transfer Portal Team Rankings.
Serigne Tounkara & California in new environment next season
Tounkara will be a part of a new era at California. The 2024 campaign will be the Golden Bears’ first in the ACC. They will be joined by SMU and Stanford. The ACC officially voted to allow all three members into the conference on Sept. 1, 2023.
“We are thrilled to welcome three world-class institutions to the ACC, and we look forward to having them compete as part of our amazing league,” ACC Commissioner Jim Phillips said. “Throughout the evaluation process, the ACC Board of Directors, led by President Ryan, was deliberate in prioritizing the best possible athletic and academic experience for our student-athletes and in ensuring that the three universities would strengthen the league in all possible ways.

“Cal, SMU and Stanford will be terrific members of the ACC and we are proud to welcome their student-athletes, coaches, staff and entire campus community, alumni and fans.”
California is similarly excited to begin its journey in the new conference.
“We are very pleased with the outcome, which will support the best interests of our student-athletes and aligns with Berkeley’s values,” University of California-Berkeley Chancellor Carol Christ said. “We are confident that the ACC and its constituent institutions are an excellent match for our university and will provide an elite competitive context for our student-athletes in this changing landscape of intercollegiate athletics.”
