Multiple schools have expressed interest in Morehead State transfer big man Johni Broome, per college basketball recruiting analyst Travis Branham. The long list of teams interested include Alabama, Arkansas, Auburn, Florida, LSU, Ohio State, Texas and others.

Broome spent the past two seasons with the Eagles, and was named the Ohio Valley Conference Defensive Player of the Year this past season. Broome appeared in 34 games in 2021-22, averaging 16.8 points, 10.5 rebounds, and 3.9 blocks per game on 55.5 percent overall shooting from the field. His 131 total blocks set a Morehead State single-season record.

The 6-foot-10, 235-pound forward took a massive step forward in his second collegiate season to finish as the Ohio Valley’s leading rebounder. The Eagles finished the season with a 23-11 record, falling just one game shy of reaching the NCAA Tournament.

On March 31, Broome announced that he would test the NBA Draft waters and not sign an agent, leaving open the possibility for a return. Now, not even a week later, he has entered the transfer portal. Broome was projected to go undrafted according to a recent ESPN mock draft.

“Unfortunately, the season came to an end a bit earlier than we would’ve hoped, and after some time to reflect I am now looking toward the future and the next step in my career,” Broome wrote in his Twitter post. “After discussing with my family, I have made the decision to enter my name in the 2022 draft, while retaining my eligibility and not signing with an agent at this time. I look forward to receiving valuable feedback that will assist me in my lifelong goal of playing in the NBA, and I appreciate all your support along this journey. I will forever be an Eagle and Morehead State will always hold a special place in my heart.”

Broome was not highly recruited out of high school, receiving offers from only Bryant and Jacksonville in addition to Morehead State. Things have since changed for the Florida native, who ranks as the No. 50 overall prospect according to On3’s Transfer Portal Rankings. It’s clear that Johni Broome will have plenty of choices when deciding where to transfer for his third collegiate season.
