Mykel Williams injury update: Kirby Smart reveals latest on Georgia defender

After spraining his ankle in the opener and missing the second game this weekend, Georgia DE Mykel Williams has to return to practice this week before coming back to the field.
Kirby Smart assessed where Williams is and what they’re looking for in his recovery during his press conference on Monday. He said coming back this week and working is the main thing for him ahead of their conference opener this weekend.
“He’s got to be able to practice,” said Smart. “He’s got to be able to go out and compete and run, put pressure on it.”
Although he was out against Tennessee Tech, though, Williams has been doing what he has needed to in his rehabilitation to be back as soon as possible according to Smart.

“He’s doing a great job of rehab,” Smart said. “He did a great job this weekend of getting extra time in.”
This comes after Smart said following the game on Saturday that the Bulldogs would know more about his status by Wednesday.
This injury has slowed the start of Williams’ junior season which could be among the better ones nationally based on his preseason accolades. That began with two tackles and three pressures in that debut against Clemson in Atlanta before exiting.
Georgia will be in the bluegrass this weekend for a league game versus Kentucky. As for Williams’ status for that one, we’ll know more as the week progresses, including with the eventual release of the injury reports for the ‘Dawgs.
“We’ll see where he’s at,” said Smart.

From what Kirby Smart said on Monday, it sounds like a few of Georgia’s injured players should be good to go by Saturday.

TE Oscar Delp went down during the first half with an ankle injury. He returned to the field shortly after but emerged from the locker room after halftime with tennis shoes on instead of cleats and without a helmet in hand. Luckily, the injury isn’t too serious according to Smart as he thought that he could’ve gone back in.
“Oscar’s good. Oscar’s fine,” Smart said.
RB Nate Frazier and DL Nasir Johnson went down with injuries as well. Like Delp, though, Smart doesn’t view either injury as long-term
“(Frazier) could have come back, and we ended up holding him out. I’m not even sure it’s a shoulder, but I don’t know what significance,” said Smart. “They came over to me and said he’s ready to go back in but at that point we were moved on.”
“Nasir had a little bit of a sublux he’s had before. Should be fine,” Smart said.
According to Smart, the Bulldogs are also hopeful that DL Warren Brinson will be able to practice on Monday.
“He looks good. Hopefully will be able to go today,” Smart said. “We’ll find out more. Honestly don’t know until we get out there. He did some stuff yesterday in the weight room.”
