The Auburn Tigers are hitting the road to travel to Athens and renew the Deep South’s Oldest Rivalry when they play the Georgia Bulldogs. With both sides looking to bounce back from tough losses, they released their injury reports for the Thursday before the game.

It had been revealed on the Wednesday injury report that Georgia would be without linebacker Smael Mondon this week. That’s going to be a major loss for the Bulldogs to deal with in this game as he’s anchored the Georgia defense during his time with the program. Now, head coach Kirby Smart needs to find a way to replace him at linebacker.

Elsewhere on defense, Georgia got a positive update on Mykel Williams on Thursday’s report. He has been upgraded from questionable to probable.

Smael Mondon is a major loss, but he’s not the only player dealing with issues and both Georgia and Auburn have listed several players as either being out or having some other issue on their current injury reports. You can check that report out, here:

The injury report showing Smael Mondon would be out for Georgia came as a surprise and likely would have occurred in practice. To this point in the season, Mondon has made 17 total tackles and a tackle for a loss. He also has two pass breakups.

That’s a major loss, but other players along the Georgia defensive front seven are also working to get back to full health. That includes Mykel Williams and Jordan Hall, who Kirby Smart shared an update on earlier in the week.

“Yeah Jordan’s continuing to progress and working hard. He does indy drills, he takes reps. Even with a little bit of pain there. And he’s just trying to get comfortable to tolerate that. I mean, it’s a very unique thing where you had both legs, not just one, which that’s compounding the issue a little bit for him,” Smart said on Wednesday.

“Mykel’s coming along nicely. He’s still sore. He’s going to be sore on it. That’s to be understood. When you go play on that and return from that injury, you have to deal with some pain and deal with the soreness and he’s done a tremendous job with rehab and we’ve done a really good job of trying to get him back, get him ahead of schedule each week.”

Auburn has several of its own injuries to deal with going into the game against Georgia. That includes having multiple defensive backs out, with Tyler Scott and Champ Anthony set to miss the game. That’s going to be a challenge to overcome with Georgia’s offense being led by a potentially high NFL Draft pick in Carson Beck.

Georgia and Auburn will renew their rivalry at 3:30 p.m. EST on October 5th in Athens.
