Two programs drew more intrigue than most at SEC Media Days. Oklahoma and Texas are new members and no matter who was standing at the podium, questions were asked about the Sooners and Longhorns. And despite not playing Oklahoma during the 2024 season, Georgia‘s Mykel Williams was no different.

Williams shared a message to OU just a few weeks away from lining up against an SEC opponent. Between the games themselves and the road atmospheres coming, Williams wants folks in Norman to know how tough the SEC can be.

“I feel like Oklahoma should expect loud fans, loud stadiums, tough, hard-nosed, physical opponents, and just good games in the SEC,” Williams said at SEC Media Days. “It’s just tough in the SEC.”

It’s funny because, at times, Georgia can seem like the SEC is a cakewalk. The last three seasons regular seasons have seen zero conference losses have occurred. Kirby Smart has built one of the best rosters in college football and the results have certainly shown, even against the sport’s best conference. Alabama is the only program to take Georgia down, winning two SEC Championship during that period.

Williams has certainly had personal success as well, recording 6.5 tackles for a loss and 4.5 sacks in both the 2022 and 2023 seasons. An even bigger year is projected out of the star edge rusher.

There were still some tough games played along the way, though. Williams remembers the Auburn game from this past season as Georgia barely escaped from Jordan-Hare Stadium. Everyone around the SEC seems to be warning Texas and Oklahoma about playing on the Plains.

“I’d say my toughest road game probably had to be Auburn from last year,” Williams said. “I went there, it was loud, they was very good at home, and when we played, it was a great game there at Auburn.”

Oklahoma’s first-ever road game in the SEC will be against Auburn. There are two previous matchups between the two programs but both were in Sugar Bowls, with neither stepping foot in their respective college towns. Sept. 28 will be historic for the program as Brent Venables goes head-to-head against Hugh Freeze.

Plenty of warning shots have been sent the Sooners’ way about playing at Auburn. Sure, more exciting venues are on the 2024 schedule and even in ’25. But if Williams can admit Georgia had a tough time dealing with the Jordan-Hare Stadium environment, nobody will be immune.
