A new broadcasting era kicks off for the Big Ten beginning on Sept. 2. NBC will now be involved in showing the conference’s biggest games of the week. Of course, streaming is going to be a part of the process with Peacock having exclusive games throughout the year.

On Wednesday, NBC announced which games specific Big Ten teams will have to watch exclusively on Peacock. Notre Dame, which has been partnered with the network for years now, was included as well. Of the four to be announced, they are all nonconference showdowns. None will feature a Big Ten team facing another Big Ten member.

Three teams — Iowa, Ohio State, and Wisconsin — still have games NBC and Peacock will confirm at a later date. Those will wind up being conference showdowns. All three have seen TV channels assigned to their nonconference games.

Peacock pointed out every game announced on Wednesday has the common theme of a preseason-ranked opponent being present. Five of them are Big Ten teams, while Notre Dame and Washington are the outliers.

“Seven teams ranked in the Associated Press preseason Top 25 poll are expected to be featured in games streaming exclusively on Peacock this season (pending Big Ten flexible scheduling after Week 3), highlighting NBC Sports’ record-setting college football schedule across the Big Ten and Notre Dame Football,” NBC said in a statement.

Washington at Michigan State highlights Peacock exclusive games

For Michigan, Notre Dame, and Penn State, NBC has games the national college football fan is not too interested in. None of them are expected to be close and are the typical throwaway games we see during nonconference.

However, Michigan State-Washington will have a huge appeal to folks across the country. The Huskies are considered one of the better teams in the Pac-12, potentially competing for a conference title and a spot in the College Football Playoff. Mel Tucker will be looking to pull off a huge upset in East Lansing on Sept. 16.

If anyone wants to watch the game, they will be forced to buy a Peacock subscription. In just Year One of the deal between the Big Ten and NBC, one of the more interesting games of the year will be exclusively available on streaming.
