WATCH: NC State freshman Tommy White belts his 27th homerun of the season, makes NCAA history
N.C. State freshman Tommy White blasted his 27th homerun on Saturday evening in the N.C. State-Pittsburgh matchup in the 2022 ACC Baseball Tournament Semifinals. With the blast, the Wolfpack slugger set the NCAA freshman home run record. Check it out below.
The solo shot put the Wolfpack up 2-0 in the bottom of the first inning against Pittsburgh. N.C. State defeated Pittsburgh 8-3 on Saturday and advanced to the 2022 ACC Baseball Tournament Championship Game on Sunday. That game will be played in Charlotte, North Carolina at Truist Field and is set to begin at noon.
Just a few days ago, White belted a season-high three home runs in one game against the Miami Hurricanes. He’s also had a number of other games this season where he has smashed multiple long balls against his opponents.
The NCAA record that White broke on Saturday stood for 32 years — the previous record of 26 home runs was originally set by Georgia Southern freshman Todd Greene in 1990.
White has broken numerous records throughout the 2021-2022 season
It’s been a season of shattering records for White, who recently broke the ACC freshman single-season home run record by blasting his 23rd home run of the season against Wake Forest. That record has stood for 24 years and it was originally set by Florida State’s Chris Diaz in 1998. White also broke the Wolfpack’s single-season home run record earlier this year, as well.
