After a long season with plenty upsets and surprise storylines, the NCAA announced the 64-team field for the Softball Championship and road to the Women’s College World Series. With the first round taking place across 16 regional sites, the second round will take place at the super regional site of the higher remaining seed.

Oklahoma is the No. 1 overall seed, followed by No. 2 Florida State, No. 3 Virginia Tech, No. 4 Arkansas, No. 5 UCLA, No. 6 Alabama, No. 7 Oklahoma State and No. 8 Arizona State. They will have the inside track to those Super Regional series and will be favored to make the Women’s College World Series field of eight in Oklahoma City.

The NCAA’s softball tournament format starts with a double-elimination round which groups teams into pods of four. At the end, the last team without two losses over the weekend advances. The second round is a best-of-three series between two teams. Then, as the Women’s College World Series begins, the double elimination format resumes to produce two teams which play another best-of-three series for the national championship.
