NCAA Tournament Selection Committee reveals Top 16 seeds ahead of 2025 March Madness

The NCAA Tournament Selection Committee revealed its Top 16 seeds ahead of March Madness 2025.
It’s a nice look at where the current field stands with the top 16 squads as we’re just two weeks away from March. You can almost pencil in these teams to get into the tournament, barring anything crazy.
But still, that’s why you play the game on the hardwood rather than paper. Let’s take a look at the Top 16 for the 2025 edition of March Madness through mid-February.
Top 16: No. 1 seeds

1. Auburn (1 seed, South)
2. Alabama (1 seed, Midwest)
3. Duke (1 seed, East)
4. Florida (1 seed, West)
Alabama is ranked No. 2 in the latest AP Poll ahead of the Iron Bowl, or Iron Hardwood showdown. Does that work? Anyway, Nate Oats’ team is rolling this season and we might even see this game in the SEC Championship and national championship. Auburn went into Saturday as the No. 1 team in the country and has been great all season long. Right now, this is definitely Bruce Pearl’s finest job.
Duke is back to its old Duke ways, led by star freshman Cooper Flagg. Yes, the surrounding cast is great too, but this team will go as far as the projected No. 1 overall pick will take them. Florida goes into Saturday ranked No. 3 in the AP Poll and is 21-3 on the season. Todd Golden has done a fantastic job with the Gators, who’ve been one of the hottest teams in the country.
Top 16: No. 2 seeds

5. Tennessee (2 seed, East)
6. Texas A&M (2 seed, South)
7. Purdue (2 seed, Midwest)
8. Houston (2 seed, West)
Rick Barnes’ crew is 20-5 on the season and ranked in the top five, so you can see how good the SEC is this season. |Despite a recent loss to Kentucky, Tennessee has wins over Florida and Missouri as of late. The Aggies are ranked No. 8 in the country and already hit the 20-win mark. Texas A&M has ranked wins over Missouri, Ole Miss, Texas Tech, Purdue and Creighton. It’s a pretty solid resume!
Purdue is 19-6 on the season and have ranked wins over Michigan, Maryland and Ole Miss this season. They’ve also fallen short to Texas A&M, Auburn and lost their second meeting to the Wolverines. Houston goes into Saturday at 20-4 on the season, led by head coach Kelvin Sampson. The Cougars have a quality over Kansas as of late, but have fallen short to teams like Texas Tech and Alabama.
Top 16: No. 3 seeds

9. Iowa State (3 seed, Midwest
10. Kentucky (3 seed, West)
11. Wisconsin (3 seed, South)
12. Arizona (3 seed, East)

Iowa State goes into Saturday ranked No. 10 in the country, per the AP Poll. While they’re very solid, the Cyclones have had losses to Kansas and Kansas State this month. Still, Iowa State also beat Kansas earlier this season, so it evens out. Oh yeah, they beat Texas Tech too. At 17-7, Kentucky has a big game on the road against Texas Saturday night. The Wildcats have had their moments, especially owning two wins over a top five Tennessee team and a win over Florida back in January.
The Badgers are one of the better teams in the country. They just happen to only be ranked No. 16 though. Despite losses to Michigan, Marquette and Maryland, the Badgers can turn things around with a win over Purdue Saturday. Arizona has a pivotal game against Houston Saturday afternoon that could boost or hurt the resume going into March Madness. The Wildcats are 17-7 this season and ranked No. 13 in the country.
Top 16: No. 4 seeds

13. Texas Tech (4 seed, South)
14. Michigan, (4 seed, West)
15. Kansas (4 seed, Midwest)
16. St. John’s (4 seed, East)
At 19-5, Texas Tech is rolling this season and is ranked No. 12 in the country, per the AP Poll. Recently, the Red Raiders lost to Arizona but also knocked off Houston within the first week of February. Michigan is currently ranked No. 20 ahead of a rivalry game with Ohio State on Sunday. They’ve won five in a row, including an upset win over Purdue.
The No. 17 Jayhawks are 17-7 this season and take on Utah Saturday night. They’ve split with Iowa State this season and lost to Houston and were upset by West Virginia and rival Kansas State. St. John’s just knocked off UConn last week but lost to Villanova. Still, Rick Pitino is doing a heck of a job with the No. 9 team in the country.
Selection Sunday is set for March 16th with the First Four tipping off on March 18th. The tournament runs through April 7th with the national championship game taking place in San Antonio.
