Early in his second season in charge, Matt Rhule has changed the feeling around Nebraska. The program is red hot following a massive win against Colorado on Saturday night, showcasing its talent in front of the entire country.

Due to the 28-10 victory, expectations have only grown in Lincoln. While the Cornhuskers have not made a bowl game since 2016, people in Lincoln have to be thinking bigger. Could Nebraska potentially be in the College Football Playoff picture?

Massey Rating win probability: 1%

Nebraska has quite a few games to get through before thinking about Ohio State. But the fanbase is certainly dreaming big and believing Oct. 26 against the Buckeyes will have a large amount at stake, even if the Massey Rating win probability is low.

Massey Rating win probability: 22%

A bye week will occur before Nebraska flies out West for their first-ever Big Ten matchup against USC. Matt Rhule is no stranger to going up against Lincoln Riley, dating back to their days at Baylor and Oklahoma. This go-round appears to favor Riley at the moment.

3. Nebraska at Iowa

Massey Rating win probability: 29%

Talk about two programs with not a lot of love for each other, Iowa-Nebraska has become quite the rivalry since the Huskers joined the Big Ten. Unfortunately, the Hawkeyes have dominated with nine wins in 13 matchups. Iowa City will host in 2024 after last season’s heartbreaker in Lincoln.

4. Nebraska at Purdue

Date: 9/28
Massey Rating win probability: 46%

Two former Big Ten West foes, Purdue will be Nebraska’s first conference game on the road. Three out of the last five Big Ten road openers have resulted in losses for the program and right now, the slight edge goes to Purdue.

5. UCLA at Nebraska

Massey Rating win probability: 49%

The lone home game Nebraska has a lower than 50% chance of winning per the Massey Rating is UCLA. A new member of the Big Ten, Nov. 2 will be just the 14th-ever meeting between the two schools. As of Monday, the Bruins are projected to come away with a victory.

6. Nebraska at Indiana

Massey Rating win probability: 52%

Of the remaining road games Nebraska has this season, this is the likeliest victory per the Massey Rating win probability. Since joining the Big Ten, the Cornhuskers have traveled to Bloomington just once (2016).

7. Wisconsin at Nebraska

Massey Rating win probability: 52%

Late November could be a time for Nebraska to make a move. If things shake out the right way, Wisconsin coming to town could wind up being a massive matchup. The Massey Rating win probability barely sides with the home team.

8. Illinois at Nebraska

Massey Rating win probability: 63%

Illinois may have just pulled off an upset of Kansas but the Massey Rating is not buying into the Fighting Illini yet — at least against Nebraska. This will be a primetime game at home for Rhule’s bunch, occurring on a Friday night.

9. Rutgers at Nebraska

Date: 10/5
Massey Rating win probability: 68%

The matchups have not been super frequent but there’s one team Nebraska has not lost to since joining the Big Ten — Rutgers. Greg Schiano has vastly improved the Scarlet Knights in recent years but faces a tough task on the road early in October.

10. Northern Iowa at Nebraska

Date: 09/14
Massey Rating win probability: 99%

Off the back of Saturday’s huge win against Colorado, Northern Iowa will be in Lincoln on Saturday. Another night game at Memorial Stadium means Husker fans should be able to provide a great atmosphere once again.

If the Massey Rating win probability turns out to be correct, Nebraska will add five more wins and bring their final record to 7-5. Postseason play would be clinched for the first time in eight seasons and break the streak of finishing with a losing record.
