Nevada, former Florida State, Nebraska QB Chubba Purdy enters NCAA Transfer Portal
Nevada quarterback Chubba Purdy has entered the NCAA Transfer Portal, On3 has learned. Purdy previously played for Nebraska and Florida State.
Purdy spent two seasons at Florida State to begin his career before transferring to Nebraska for two more. He transferred to Nevada ahead of the 2024 season, and played in seven games there.
He is the younger brother of San Francisco 49ers and former Iowa State quarterback Brock Purdy.
The younger Purdy began his college playing career at Florida State during the 2020 Covid-altered season. He played in three games that year and then one the following season before transferring to Nebraska. With the Cornhuskers, he played two seasons, appearing in 12 total games — six in each seasons.
Across the 16 games he played in during his first four years, Purdy had less than 1000 combined pass yards and had six passing touchdowns to seven interceptions.

With the Wolf Pack in 2024, Purdy appeared in seven games, attempting just 25 passes, completing 18 for 239 yards, a touchdown and an interception. Purdy also dealt with a shoulder injury at the start of the season. He originally committed to San Jose State out of the portal before flipping his commitment to Nevada.
Purdy has also been an effective rusher in his career, averaging 4.4 yards per carry, with his sack yardage included in the calculations. He averaged 6.2 yards per carry on a career-high 29 attempts in 2023 with Nebraska, also scoring one of his three career rushing touchdowns.
Purdy played high school football at Gilbert (AZ) Perry, where he was a four-star prospect. He was the No. 211 overall recruit in the 2020 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
Purdy will have one year of eligibility remaining at his next destination. Given his track record and limited eligibility, his best bet for sure-fire playing time — if that’s what he’s after — could be a transfer to the FCS or Division II levels.
