College football never disappoints. After the excitement that filled up the past couple of weekends across the country, Week 8 appeared to lack some of the big-time matchups on paper. But it certainly didn’t disappoint. After five ranked matchups and other upsets throughout the nation in Week 8, a new AFCA Coaches Poll Top 25 has been revealed.
No. 1 Georgia and No. 4 Michigan were idle this week. In between them, No. 2 Ohio State picked up a 54-10 victory over Iowa while No. 3 Tennessee cruised to a 65-24 win over UT-Martin. No. 5 Clemson needed a late comeback to beat No. 14 Syracuse, but that’s exactly what the Tigers did. No. 6 Alabama then dominated in a 30-6 triumph over No. 24 Mississippi State.
After Alabama at No. 6 is where things got interesting during Week 8. No. 7 Ole Miss led early against unranked LSU, but the Tigers completely dominated the second half. Ole Miss didn’t score in the final two quarters, and LSU ultimately won 45-20. That has resulted in a bit of a fall for the Rebels in the rankings, while the Tigers re-join the top 25 in a notable way.
No. 8 TCU also won 38-28 over No. 17 Kansas State, and then the final two teams in the top ten – No. 9 UCLA and No. 10 Oregon – battled head-to-head in Eugene. Oregon came out strong and didn’t let up, and the home crowd left happy with a 45-30 Ducks victory.
No. 11 Oklahoma State won an exciting battle against No. 20 Texas, giving the Cowboys another jolt up into the top ten.
In addition to Georgia and Ohio State, No. 12 USC, No. 15 Utah, No. 18 Illinois, No. 19 Kentucky, No. 22 North Carolina and No. 23 NC State were on bye during Week 8.
