Legendary New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick has announced that he will return for the 2023 regular season, according to Ari Meirov.

The Patriots missed the playoffs in 2022, with an 8-9 record. In his 23 seasons with New England, Belichick has only had three seasons with a losing record. The first was in 2000, his first season, while the other two have come since 2020, leading to concerns about his future.

During his 23 seasons with the Patriots, Bill Belichick has won six Super Bowls and the AFC East 17 times. He has been widely known for his partnership with quarterback Tom Brady. Together, Belichick and Brady found most of their career success together. In fact, during Brady’s time as the starter in New England, the Patriots only missed the playoffs twice and in one of those seasons, Brady had a torn ACL.

One of the winningest coaches in NFL history, Bill Belichick is assured a spot in the NFL Hall of Fame. He’s currently third all-time in regular season coach wins, behind Don Shula and George Halas, with 298. If you include playoff wins, Belichick is second, only behind Shula, with 329.

Belichick is 30 regular season wins and 18 playoff wins away from catching Shula for first all-time on each list, respectively.

Prior to coming to New England, Belichick worked as a defensive coordinator under Bill Parcells. He also had a stint as the head coach of the Cleveland Browns. However, it wasn’t as successful as his tenure in New England.

Bill Belichick will be 71 years old for the 2023 season.
